History

Driver David Jenkins (30) first experienced the thrill of truck racing when, in 1984 aged 9, he was taken to Donnington to watch his father Tony Jenkins racing his truck in the British Championship.

A few years later it was Dave’s brother James who first decided to follow in his father’s tyre tracks.

In the meantime David spent two of his late teenage years racing 125 gearbox karts and then moved on to Grand Prix midgets.

However, the pull of the mighty race truck was hard to resist and in 1997 Dave took over Tony’s MACK. In this vehicle Dave acquired the basics of his truck racing skills, but unfortunately they let him down slightly in 1999 at Donnington when he crashed!

Dave then borrowed the BTRA White which he raced for a few meetings.

His next truck was a DAF which Dave built to a new technical standard for it's day which gave him a Championship round win at Donnington in 2000. After a couple of seasons the Jenkins team changed the engine in the DAF to an M11, trialling it with a view to possibly using it in a new truck in the future.

In 2003, Jenkins Motorsport went into partnership with DRT of Finland, manufacturers of the Sisu. Originally, the Sisu to be driven by Dave had been built in their factory and used in the European Championship. Although Dave got off to a promising start, there were some reliability issues during the first two seasons. In addition, because of changes in racing regulations, the Jenkins team has developed the truck to meet Dave’s requirements. Last season there was a noticeable improvement in the performance and reliability of the truck.
